Hot Yoga Instructor Profile: Sheree DeClemente

With all the types of yoga out there, it can be overwhelming picking which type is best for you. When I was doing research about studios in South Jersey, Bikram Yoga Studio came up various times. I decided to get in contact with Sheree DeClemente, one of the instructors at the Voorhees location. When I went to the studio this week, I had the privilege to talk to Sheree in person and interview her for the Lotus Journal.

Q.) When did you begin practicing yoga?

A.) I took my first class here at Bikram in July of 2010, and started teaching in June of 2011. I had to take a 9 week yoga instructing training class as part of the requirements here at BIkram.

Q.) Where did you go to college, and what was your major?

A.) I went to Arizona State University and I graduated with a degree in Broadcasting.

Q.) Why did you have an interest in trying yoga?

A.) I’ve had an interest for a while. When I turned 30, I wanted to change for a healthier lifestyle. It’s become a huge part of my life now, and I love it. I teach 8 times a week, and it is my only gig at the moment.

Q.) What is your favorite type of yoga?

A.) Well hot yoga is my favorite, but I’ve tried other forms. I would like to try other types in the future.

Q.) What are some tips for aspiring yogis?

A.) Honestly,my advice would be just do the best you can. Try not to be overwhelmed, as many of my newer students tend to be freaked out about the heat. Take your time, go slow, do what you can. Don’t have expectations.

I hope this inspires you to take control and sign up for classes if you haven’t already done so! Whatever type of yoga it may be 🙂

Namaste,

Gabby

Lazy Sunday

Greetings from the most comfortable futon in South Jersey!

This winter has been anything but kind to all of us on the east coast, especially in our Tri-state area. All of the snow we’ve been getting has been insane! And I know a lot of you can agree that staying inside for days can lead to cabin fever 😦 With that being said, I wanted to remind all of you that just because the weather outside might be terrible, there are still ways to exercise and be kind to your body!

One of my favorite websites, Do Yoga With Me, offers countless FREE online yoga videos that you can watch at any time. They have a range of classes including yoga, pilates, and even mediation videos. It is a great site for those rainy/snow days when you don’t want to step outside, give it a shot!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday night,

Gabby

It all starts with you

Good afternoon everyone! 🙂

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks snow, and taken each day as a new beginning to work on the most important thing, YOU! As part of my main goal for my blog, I want to encourage readers to realize that anyone can begin their yoga journey at any time. Whether you are young or old, male or female, yoga is for everyone.

In order to begin your new yoga practice, it is important to start somewhere you feel most comfortable. Living in Glassboro, I have been fortunate enough to attend weekly classes at Rowan’s rec center. But for those of you that are looking for studios in south Jersey, I have done some research to find beautiful (and affordable) yoga studios in our area.

Some of the best studios I have found for you inspiring or already practicing yogis include:

  1. Experience Yoga Studio (Turnersville)
  2. Yoga Inspired Studio (Pitman)
  3. Bikram Yoga Studio (Voorhees)
  4. Yoga Center of Haddonfield

All of these studios provide beginner classes, hot yoga, and intermediate classes for great prices! Along with these studios, I want to encourage readers to look into Living Social, which provides single and group packages for everything from yoga class to wine tasting events! It really is  worth the shot.

Hopefully these sites are helpful to start your year off right by choosing to help your body with the ancient practice of yoga. Remember that nobody can make positive changes in your life, but you! Take the first step and sign up for a class, don’t be shy! Your body will thank you later, trust me.

Namaste,

Gabby

First things first

Greetings yogis and non yogis alike,

My name is Gabby Diaz, and I am a senior PR major at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. The topic of my blog is Yoga and its presence in rural south Jersey. I have been practicing yoga for years, and I love everything about it. Within the next couple of weeks, I plan on accomplishing many things such as discovering new yoga studios. I want to explore the culture in our area, and see how it is blossoming. I am excited to document and share my experiences with you. Namaste!
